WRITING FOR CHARITY is a day-long conference and workshop for writers of picture book, middle grade, or young adult manuscripts. Founded by New York Times best-selling author and Newbery Honor recipient Shannon Hale, the conference is coordinated by professional authors in Utah who want to give back to their community and their world.
The conference includes a day's worth of writing and publishing industry instruction, live manuscript critiques by published authors, the potential opportunity to meet with an agent or editor from New York; a silent auction of everything from signed books to lunches with your favorite writers from Utah; and the knowledge that your dollars are going to work for great children's book causes like WE NEED DIVERSE BOOKS or FIRST BOOK.
At Writing for Charity, we're trying to make the world a better place, one word at a time.
And this year, we are also asking all of our attendees to help with a special project: The Rick Walton Library at St. George Academy, a public high school opening in August, which is facing the now-common problem of having a library cut out of its budget. YOU can help by:
1. If you have any gently-used hardcover books on your shelves that are begging to be read again (and again and again and again), but probably not by someone in your home, please bring them to me at Writing for Charity. If you won’t be there, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will work something out. The books should be for readers in 9th-12th grades, so older-middle grade through Young Adult.
3. Please ask friends and neighbors if they have any hardcover MG or YA books that they would like to donate to this school, and bring them to me at WFC.
For every book you bring, you will get an entry to a special drawing of signed books from authors at the conference. You can also donate directly to the Rick Walton Library at Writing For Charity.
